Yoga for Athletes

Crossfit Adaptation is proud to offer the first Yoga for Athletes class in the DC area. Yoga is both a great way to begin improving your fitness and a way to make good athletes better. It will improve your flexibility, balance, muscle endurance, and kinestetic awareness (a technical way of saying the awareness of where your body is in space, and which muscle groups you’re engaging when you snatch a heavy barbell). As well, the focus on breathing and mental focus will help hone the mental endurance critical for success. Whether you’re an experienced yogi or consider yoga new age mumbo jumbo, this class will make you a better athlete using the structure of Ashtanga yoga without the bells or incense.
Our yoga classes are available for ANYONE. You do not need to be a CFA member. The drop in rate is $13 per class or you can purchase a 10 class punch card for $120. These can be purchased from any of our coaches.
On Thursday evenings we focus on recovery, joint mobility, and injury prevention through awareness. With both a yoga and CF Mobility Certification as a base, this class will attempt not just to stretch, but to “globally address movement and performance problems. Expect a relaxed class targeted to loosen you up from the previous week’s programming. Members are welcome to join us after their first foundations class for this session.
We offer two different formats of a traditional yoga class. We practice Ashtanga yoga with Alli or Vinyasa Flow yoga with Kat. The Ashtanga system consists of six series of poses, each of which is always taught in a specific sequential order. For this class we will practice a modified Primary series, an hour long class with a focus on breathing and alignment. The Vinyasa Flow class with Kat is a similar hour long athletic flow class – meaning each posture leads smoothly to the next in a guided practice with adjustments.
Our Sunday night class will be quite challenging, but like all Crossfit classes can be scaled to any fitness and flexibility level. A variety of scaling options will be taught along with the series, and again like all Crossfit workouts, you’ll be encouraged to use them until you can execute the poses flawlessly.
